Recovery Boiler Capability to Accommodate Alternative Kraft Mill Processes
نویسنده
چکیده
he Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) sponsored a Paper InT dustry Research Needs workshop at the State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York, May 26-28,1992, The Pulping and Bleaching Processes Panel identified the major need in kraft black liquor recovery, namely, an affordable, incremental, chemical recovery capacity increase to remove the bottleneck in the recovery boiler operation. This paper will explor? kraft mill process factors that cause a pulp producer to require more capacity. Approaches to removing the bottleneck and providing increased black liquor processing capability include retrofitting the existing recovery boiler to increase its capacity. Retrofit case histories were selected from an extensive l ist of retrofit experience to represent a spectrum of possible approaches.

Pulp and Paper Plant Materials Issues Addressed by X-ray and Neutron Diffraction Methods
A kraft paper mill produces a steady waste stream of reacted inorganic chemicals and organic wastes called black liquor. Both monetary and environmental concerns demand that the inorganic chemicals and the organic byproducts are recycled. Currently recovery boilers are the standard means to recycle the inorganic chemicals and organic waste to produce a large fraction of the energy needed to ope...
متن کاملA multi-criteria decision analysis of management alternatives for anaerobically digested kraft pulp mill sludge
The Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) procedure was used to compare waste management options for kraft pulp mill sludge following its anaerobic digestion. Anaerobic digestion of sludge is advantageous because it produces biogas that may be used to generate electricity, heat and biofuels. However, adequate management of the digested sludge is essential. Landfill disposal is a non-sustainab...
متن کاملProcess Monitoring in Chemical Industries – A Hidden Markov Model Approach
The detection of abnormal events in advance is still a challenge in chemical industries. The earlier it is done, the greater the possibility of at least mitigating losses. This study investigates the performance of a signal processing tool so-called hidden Markov model (HMM) in accomplishing detection tasks. The case study is based on a chemical recovery boiler that belongs to a Kraft pulping m...
متن کاملStudies on the Removal of AOX from Bleached Kraft Mill Effluent with Bark Boiler Ash
A laboratory study was carried out to determine the effect of bark boiler ash on AOX concentration in bleach plant effluent. The removal of A O X was found not to be significant at typical daily discharge rates of boiler ash. To remove significant amounts of AOX, extremely large quantities of ash were required. When incremental quantities of ash were added to the bleach plant effluent, an incre...
